Spreading High Fives and Good Vibes!

SPREADING HIGH FIVES AND GOOD VIBES!

It’s April 18th, 2019, and that may not mean anything to you just yet, but it means something to us and our friends at the High Fives Foundation!

IT’S NATIONAL HIGH FIVE DAY

Every third Thursday in April the world breaks down the barriers that bind our society and join hands to celebrate the most coveted victory celebration in human history…..The “High Five.” Although the true origins are unknown, some scientists and scholars believe the credit for manifesting such a momentous hand gesture goes to Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke of the 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers. The two were far ahead of their time when the “hand slap heard around the world” changed society as we know it. Truly a day that will live in infamy.

bigtruck® x High Fives Foundation

Back in 2010, bigtruck® and the High Fives Foundation partnered up for a match made in Truckee, California Heaven. The partnership was sparked when bigtruck® moved in next to High Fives and since then, has exploded amongst the ski and action sports community from California to New England. As a Five for Fives partner, bigtruck® donates $.05 from every online sale back to the foundation.

Each year, the two organizations release a special collaboration hat and have coined the phrase “this hat helped an athlete” as all profits go back into the foundation. Throughout the year, you can find bigtruck® and High Fives supporting each other at events clinking happy hour beers at the neighborhood craft brewery, Truckee Brewing Company.

MILITARY TO THE MOUNTAINS

Bigtruck and the High Fives Foundation have partnered on many events, the latest one being the 2019 Military to the Mountains, welcoming Veterans to Squaw Valley.  On March 17-23 2019, the healing powers of the snow were brought our respected men and women veterans, specifically those who have suffered life altering injuries in the name of loyalty to the USA. Check out our pictures below of the event that we hosted at our Truckee Factory Store and Headquarters!

"MILITARY TO THE MOUNTAINS IS A WAY TO TELL THE STORIES OF US VETERANS CHOOSING TO EMBRACE GOAL SETTING AND ATHLETICISM AS A WAY TO ENJOY LIFE AND ALL OF IT’S CHALLENGES. THEIR STORY IS PART OF OUR STORY."

ABOUT THE HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION

The High Five Foundations celebrates and supports the dreams of outdoor action sports athletes by raising injury prevention awareness while providing resources and information for those who suffer life-altering injuries.

The High Fives Foundation is the safety net of the outdoor actions sports community.

On April, 29th 2006 Roy Tuscany suffered a massive spinal cord injury while training at Mammoth Mountain, CA. He fractured his T-12 vertebrae, compromising 45% of his spinal cord. Roy went from dreams of being a world-class professional skier to relearning every physical aspect of life. With the help of strong personalities, positivity, and high fives, Roy clipped back into skies and hopped back on a chairlift 2 years later. The encouragement he received during his recovery inspired him to start an organization
